Clippers send Spurs home in thrilling game 7
The Clippers actually did it. They pulled off the upset that no one thought they were capable of. They proved as a team, not only do they have the physical abilities to beat another championship contender; they have the mental fortitude to accomplish such a feat as well. Game seven came down to the wire, and in the end Chris Paul made a fantastic play to send the Spurs packing.
The series was evenly matched throughout, and the contrasting styles of both teams made for exceedingly compelling television. In game seven the Clippers proved too much for San Antonio. LA was too athletic and simply too young and talented to overcome. This just wasn’t the Spurs year, for once.
In the series’ final game, Blake Griffin notched a triple-double with 24 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists. Tim Duncan proved he’s immortal with a 27 point, 11 rebound performance, and Chris Paul showed he can lead a team deeper into the playoffs, with the right cast of players surrounding him. Paul tallied 27 points and 6 assists himself in a gutsy performance. Even while playing on only one leg, Paul was dealing with a hamstring throughout the course of the game, Chris willed his team to victory. Making the game’s final jump shot marked the end to a brilliant series, and the beginning of what can hopefully turn into a deep run for the Clippers.
Thus far in “Lob City”, the Clippers have only succeeded in racking up a long highlight reel of dunks and high flying acrobatics. This means little given the team’s championship hopes and habitual underperformance during the post-season. 2015 could finally be the year LA takes the next step. It’s legitimately possible the Clippers finally make good on the level of hype and expectations that have been so high since the team first came together.
