‘Cloak and Dagger’ Recap and Review: “Shadow Selves”
Last night on Cloak and Dagger, Mina Hess made a comeback to help Ty, Tandy, and Brigid understand how Mayhem came about. Of course, it was her fall into the water during the Roxxon event. Mayhem is essentially Brigid but with all anger and hyperfocus on finding Connors. The doppelganger’s plan is to kill Brigid until she learns that Connors was in the wind. She sets her sights on taking him out first.
Using her knowledge of herself, Brigid leads Ty and Tandy to a motel. She easily got Mayhem’s key from the scared attendant. There, they found pictures and articles all over. They learn that Mayhem is looking for the missing girls. They are a few steps behind her. Elsewhere, Mayhem found a drunken and depressed, Father Delgado yelling out a sermon on Bourbon Street. Delgado quit his job after Ty’s situation hit the fan months ago. She asks him what do after she kills Connors’ old partner and her last lead on him. Delgado tells her to look behind her own issues.
Right, Wrong, or A Bit of Both
The trio arrives at a strip club just in time to get knocked back by Mayhem. She rolls out, leaving all three shaken. That night, she finds some of the missing girls and kills most of the drivers. When Ty, Tandy, and Brigid find them, Mayhem is gone. As Brigid goes to check for any survivors, Tandy and Ty have a disagreement about Mayhem’s tactics and chaos. Ty isn’t for her style, but Tandy’s more into her “by any means necessary” actions.
At the hospital, Tandy can’t use her gifts to find any hope so Ty has to look for their fears. Inside one girl’s mind, he sees where they were being taken. Later, they go to a secluded old building. Ty’s heads inside and gets a peek at their situation. After reappearing at her side, Tandy notices that Ty looks tired. He waves her concern off.
After Tandy creates a blinding light with her new move, Ty sneaks in and teleports the girls out. All the girls were out by the time Mayhem arrives but she was still out for blood. She kills a gang banger and steals his gun before turning the weapon on people inside. Ty jumps in front of a young teenager who was there, saving his life. Ty expands his cloak and absorbs Mayhem. In this dark realm, Mayhem wanders into a distance gas station and find’s Brigid’s undead boyfriend from season one.
Final take on last night’s episode of Cloak and Dagger
A lot went down in this episode and the pacing was pretty nice. The one thing that threw me was the back and forth between the days and months after the Roxxon incident and the present. I loved that they showed Brigid back on detective game and the subtle Daredevil/Karen Page tie in. I’m looking forward to seeing more from the people in Ty’s life that got left behind like Father Delgado and his parents. I’m giving “Shadow Selves” a 7 out of 10.
