After playing the longest World Series game in baseball history, the Royals came away with a 5-4 victory in a thrilling fashion that intensifies how this will be a World Series classic. The two evenly matched teams battled for 14 innings, each team coming up with big hits when needed, and their bullpen arms getting huge outs. But it was the Royals that came up with the big plays. This Royal team that has shown their versatility and grit throughout the postseason, flashed once again why they are in the October classic for the second consecutive year. The Royals continue to fight, never letting up and did so again in Game 1.

The comeback began in the ninth inning, with one out and no one on. It was a battle between Mets’ closer Familia who has been lights out, not allowing an extra base hit all postseason, against Alex Gordon who has been struggling of late, hitting eighth in the line-up and batting .200 for the postseason. Yet it was the Royal Gordon who won the battle and came up with a clutch game-tying home run that forced extra innings. And despite that big hit, the biggest game changer of the night was Chris Young who came away with the victory, after allowing 0 hits, 1BB, 4K’s across 3 scoreless innings.

Chris Young who is scheduled to start Game 4, came in and shut down the Mets offense while preserving the rest of the bullpen as they head into Game 2 tomorrow. The Royals were able to finally get the big hit and drive in the winning run in the 14th inning with a sacrifice fly by Eric Hosmer. This game marked the fifth time that the Royals have trailed by multiple runs, and have come back to win which shows their experience and their tenacity as a ball club. For game 2, the Royals will look for Cueto to turn it around as he faces the young stud DeGrom who has been spectacular throughout the postseason.
