Cooper’s Treasure Season Finale Recap
Cooper’s Treasure Season Finale
Last night was the last episode of the season. Most new television shows on Discovery Channel only run for 6 episodes so they will know how popular a series is and whether they wish to renew the next season.
Tonight’s episode opened with Darrell Miklos and his shipwreck recovery crew going back to site 6.
Last episode the crew found artifacts they hoped to be the shipwreck of the Pinzon’s boat. One of the artifacts they found last episode was an old anchor.
Darrell’s archaeologist Jim unfortunately has to leave and go back home to Florida due to bad health. Leaving Darrell to scramble for a replacement.
In the older shipwreck days there wasn’t as many rules and salvage crews could take liberties, but now when you find artifacts you need them examined by a verified credited archaeologist. Darrell finds Jim Sinclair. One of the first archaeologist’s to dive and explore the Titanic shipwreck.
Sinclair and Darrell dive to examine the anchor underwater to see if it matches the Pinzon’s wreck. They find it is Spanish and dated around 1492 to 1550. They will know more after they bring it aboard their ship—which is no small feat.
They need to measure the anchor to see if its hand forged. If so it means it’s the Pinzon brothers, captains of Columbus ships that sank.
The story goes while trying to wait out a storm the Pinzon’s anchored the ship, but the ship was torn away from the anchor and sank. Trying to get the anchor to topside is hard. Darrell brings in a barge and boom crane to safely bring it to the top– if it fails and the anchor is dropped/breaks Darrell’s crew is responsible for hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Darrell goes over the game plan with his crew before executing the excavation. After all is understood the adventure of raising the anchor begins.
All goes according to plan. Once they examine and measure the anchor they are reasonably certain it’s hand forged and the anchor did belong to one of the Christopher Columbus wrecks.
Well that does it for Cooper’s Treasure. Hopefully I’ll be covering season two next year.
