  • Can throw fastball when needed
  • Decent athlete who can move chains with feet
  • Solid footwork and mechanics
  • Completion percentage hurt by drops

Weaknesses:

  • Average release
  • Batted passes at line of scrimmage

  • Takes too many hits–needs to slide
  • Waits an extra step before cutting it loose
  • Some scouts question his ‘wind-up’

Analysis: In many NFL Draft circles, I’ve found you either love or hate Daniel Jones. To me, after dissecting his tape—I’m in the ‘love’ camp. In a weak QB class, he is my number one guy. Learning under David Cutcliffe is never a bad thing and knowing he has studied under the best, it is clear his mechanics and IQ are top-notch. Jones doesn’t have amazing arm talent, but he can make pro throws and has the ability to attack deep with accuracy. He completed just 59.9 percent of his career passes, but his receivers — who dropped 38 passes this year alone, could not separate from even mediocre defensive backs. I think this will help him in the pros–he has already learned to throw into tight windows. Some scouts have questioned Jones’ windup motion and semi-slow release. He has, at times, waited too long on his deep ball, hesitating for his guy to create some room for separation. That being said, he is a very underrated athlete (I think Josh Allen running a lot last year) who can pick up first downs with his legs. He is the most accurate passer in the class and no one will outwork him in the film room. Despite the hate he is receiving, he has the potential to be a franchise guy at the next level.
