Daredevil Season 2 and the Defenders [DAREDEVIL SPOILERS]
So, Daredevil season 2 dropped March 18th, and gave us another great Marvel produced show. We’ve seen the extent of what Matt can do, but what will a Defenders series look like, involving Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist?
Well, first off how was Daredevil season 2?
Daredevil opens with a fantastic first half, following Matt’s investigations into a gang shooting, leading him to Frank Castle, a retired marine, who lost his family. The Anti-Hero vigilante works through his crusade with brutal violence and murder “You hit ‘em they and they get back up, I hit ‘em and they stay down!”
The Devil of Hell’s kitchen’s crusade leads him to reunite with an old flame, Elektra, an assassin trained by the same man who trained Matt. Her appearance leads to Matt’s involvement with “The Chased”, an ancient Chinese society devoted to fighting “The Hand”. Elektra is revealed to be the foretold force of power called “Black Sky”, whose presence would determine the tide of the war. Matt and Elektra fight until the last man, ending with Elektra meeting her end, but being placed in a stone sarcophagus by the hand, possibly for resurrection?
Frank Castle gets arrested, and represented by Nelson and Murdock, but Matt is distracted and blows the case for the both of them. The Punisher goes to prison, encountering the Kingpin, who hires him to take out Wilson Fisk’s enemies, but gets double crossed, resulting in a legendary fights scene between the Punisher and easily 20 inmates, rivaling season 1’s hallway fight. Frank escapes prison to continue his crusade.
The teaser for Luke Cage followed the end of DD season 2 and shows a bit of a lighter atmosphere for Luke, contrary to his involvement in Jessica Jones (a much darker show). Which poses the question of what will the defenders show be like?
Given that Daredevil was dark and gritty, Jessica Jones was dark and deep, hopefully all the heroes chemistry will compound for a fun sarcastic show, because both have snarky personas. A good link between the two would be the law firms working on cases, that lead our protagonists to work together.
Overall, I’d say season 2 was a success, and the defenders will be a fun ride.
