Brewers GM, David Stearns discussed the trade, stating how Hill was brought in to be veteran piece to a young, rebuilding team. And if Hill plays well, look for the Brewers to make him available around the deadline, to furthermore stockpile on young talent. The Brewers also receive 28 year-old P Chase Anderson, who went 6-6 with a 4.30 ERA, 6.5 K/9 and 2.4 BB/9 in 2015 as he’s also under team control for the next five years. Anderson is viewed as the prized get here for the Brewers, as he will be inserted to the starting rotation and is seen to be part of their long-term plans. As for trading away Jean Segura, initially many would believe Stearns jumped the gun as the young shortstop is only 25 years old, and made the all-star team in 2013. with Segura being traded away, it clears up the hole for Brewers’ top prospect Orlando Arcia who looks to start the season in Triple-A, but is expected to join the majors sometime this season. The Brewers also scooped up 19-year old SS Isan Diaz, who was ranked as the DBacks ninth best prospects and who was named the MVP of the Pioneer League where he hit .360 to go along with 13 homers.

The Diamondbacks get back 2013 All-Star SS Jean Segura who hit .257, smacked 6 homers and knocked in a career high 50 runs, while swiping 25 bags in 2015. Segura will continue to prove his 2013 season was no fluke, and hopes to find success in his new home Arizona. Segura is also under team control for the next three seasons and will battle for the shortstop position, although he is seen to be penciled in at second base to fill the void Arizona has been missing. Along with Jean Segura, the DBacks also snag young P Tyler Wagner, who is just 25 years old and went 11-5 to along with a 2.25 ERA in Double-A. Wagner also tasted the majors starting three games in 2015, where he struggled in his limited time. Wagner garnered a 7.24 ERA and just 5 SO’s in 13.2 innings of work, but is expected to start the season in Triple-A.

The trade looks to benefit both teams, as the DBacks look to create a young, intriguing middle infield consisting of Owings and Segura, while ridding themselves of Hill’s contract. While the Brewers are hoping for a bounce-back season from Hill, who would later be flipped along with stockpiling on young guys with Anderson (28) and Diaz (19) who could be seen as parts of their long-term plans.
