DC vs Marvel: Can’t we all just get along?
REJOICE!!! MARVEL FANS!!! REJOICE!!! BvS WAS CRITICALLY BOMBED!!!! REJOICE!!!
Or should you? Maybe not, as a comic book movie fan should you be rejoicing and celebrating at a different comic book movie’s failure. I say no, since 2008, the arrival of Iron Man, there has seemed to be a war going on mainly between Marvel and DC fans. In the beginning it was fun, having long discussions on why Dark Knight is better than Iron Man or the other way around. But then there seemed to be a rise of bias against other movies just because what comic book universe is making the movie. A lot of times without even seeing the film.
As comic book movie fans, we are deep into the world, well universe if you really think about it, and all the things that goes on from character casting all the way to Easter eggs. It’s fun seeing our favorite heroes and villains come to life. But why as comic book fans have we come to hate on other comic book movies, even if it may not be our type of comic book movie?
We should be hoping that every comic book movie does good whether we like the characters or not as comic book movie fan boys and girls. The reason being, as many actors has stated who play super heroes, such as Henry Cavil, the most recent Superman, if one movie doesn’t do good, it’s bad for all comic book movies. As I stated, as comic book movie fans, we are deep into the universe of comic book movies. But we are not the majority of movie fans. The casual movie goer doesn’t know the difference between Civil War and BvS. I’ve been asked when Batman is going to show up in the next Avengers movie. So we have to come to understand that all comic movies are the same to most movie fans. They don’t know that Marvel characters are split up between different companies.
So if one fails, that can mess up the representation of the next movie coming down the slate. With the growth of comic book movies releasing more and more, there has been a talk of fatigue traveling around the internet. So more now than ever, we need for all comic movies to succeed so that we can continue to see the characters we love come to live action.
Let’s put up the white flags and unite as comic book movie fans. People, we are living in the golden age of comic books movie. We have seen the Dark Knight fight the Man of Steel, Iron Man fight Captain America, Black Panther chase down Winter Soldier, Wonder Woman take on Doomsday. We have so much to look forward to, Justice League and the Avenger Infinity War movies. Personally, I like what both DC and Marvel has to offer including their movies, whether with a dark tone or lighter one. I like that I am able to see different types of comic book movies, hoping that I’m entertained every time. Yes, I was part of the majority that was disappointed in BvS, but there was still parts that I enjoyed a lot. And I am looking forward to what Suicide Squad has to offer.
