‘Deadpool 2’, ‘New Mutants, and ‘Gambit’ Get New Release Dates
It looks like there’s going to be a bit of a shuffle by FOX with its Marvel titles. It was announced yesterday that Deadpool 2, The New Mutants, and Gambit will all be getting new release dates. Fans of Ryan Reynold’s Deadpool will be pleased to know that the highly anticipated sequel will be released two weeks earlier; May 18th instead of June 1.
This move will place Deadpool 2 just one week before the Star Wars Han Solo film, Solo and two weeks after Avengers: Infinity Wars. The New Mutants starring Stranger Things’ Charlie Heaton and Game of Thrones’ Maisie Williams, was set release on April 13. With this reshuffle, the film won’t hit theaters until February 22, 2019.
Yes, you read that right. The film is being pushed back ten months! It makes you wonder if the studio is worried about more than just the film overlapping in the international markets as insiders are saying. We’ll be keeping an eye out for reshoots. The last film involved in the rescheduling is Gambit, which has been on somewhat of a roller coaster ride of being on the calendar, losing its director, and now being pushed back again. The film will be released June 7, 2019, instead of February 2019.
The last move will give the Channing Tatum film time to find a new director and get to work without things feeling too rushed, although, with the nature of the Gambit’s powers, there will be a lot of visual FX work to do.
What do you think of this new line up? Is it a good move putting Deadpool 2 on the calendar so close to Infinity Wars?
