Deadpool’s success and what it means for future X-men films
WARNING: Major spoilers ahead!
Deadpool and Cable
So for everyone who has seen the new Deadpool movie that has made history and broke records, hopefully you stayed for the end-credits scene. If you did then you will know that Cable will be playing a role in the sequel. For those who are not familiar with Cable, he is the son of Cyclops from the future and is basically a complete bad ass. Deadpool and Cable have teamed up on numerous occasion and have even had their own comic series and make quite the comical team.
During and after the filming of the movie Ryan Reynolds (plays Deadpool) has expressed on numerous occasions the he is very interested in working on a X-force movie. With Olivia Munn playing the part of Psylocke in X-men Apocalypse it does open the opportunity for this movie to be made. Producer Simon Kinberg has even said that he would like to see this movie be made and have a R-rating.
R-rated Super-hero films
It took ten years for FOX to finally give the green light on making Deadpool, with it being an apparent risk as it was the first R-rated super-hero film. After it’s release it scored the biggest R-rated opening weekend in history. It made $132.7 million, it is also the biggest opening weekend in 20th Century Fox’s history. In total it has made more than $300 million worldwide. Obviously it has been a huge success so far and for a film that had a budget of $50 million, I would say that FOX are pretty happy with how things turned out.
This success opens a whole new door for super-hero movies, they can be made bigger and badder than ever, while getting better results and bringing in the big bucks. Since Fox has realized this, it has been confirmed that Wolverine III will be rated R. This will be Hugh Jackman’s final performance as Wolverine and he is looking to leave a mark!
From the photo of the pamphlet we can see that the release date is March 3, 2017 and the anticipated rating is R.
With Wolverine getting the big R it opens up the opportunity for other characters to get the chance to really show their true colors on the big screen.
