Dear Nick Foles: I’m sorry, I was wrong
I’m sorry. I was wrong. Wrong about you.
I’m going to own up to it because I believe you deserve an apology, not just from me but from all the ‘haters’ that doubted your ability in the postseason and especially in the Super Bowl.
I was on record saying, “the only way Nick Foles will win a ring is being a backup to a 46-year old Tom Brady.”
Don’t worry Nick, my foot is directly inserted into my mouth.
You shined in yesterday’s game–obviously the MVP trophy tells you that. But you did more than shine, you proved that you are a franchise signal caller in the NFL. Sure, Doug Pederson’s system and unbelievable play-calling helped, but it was you out on that field making those plays, slinging the ball all over the field.
It was my belief, in order for any team to win a Super Bowl, they need an elite quarterback at the helm and I had my doubts about you. Yes, there are some outliers: Trent Dilfer and Jeff Hostetler just to name a few–but you are not them. You are Nick Foles.
It’s amazing what one game, or one postseason run can do–I used to view you as a goofy kid I watched at the University of Arizona (I am a fan of the Colorado Buffaloes) but in that short span, I now see you as a gunslinger who is deserving of a sizable contract and the number one seat atop some team’s quarterback depth chart.
Whatever your future holds (I believe it is bright), you are a Super Bowl Champion and no one can take that away from you.
The next six months will certainly be a whirlwind, the Eagles are going to recoup a lot of assets when they ship you off–but you have earned a starting gig and I wish you nothing but the best in your future.
Enjoy that ring.
