The Colorado Buffaloes look to defeat another in-state rival in their second game of the season Tuesday when they take on the Denver Pioneers at the Coors Event Center in Boulder, Colorado.

Colorado opened their season with a victory over Northern Colorado 66-51. George King led the way for the Buffs scoring 12 points and adding nine rebounds. Tory Miller-Stewart also had a nice outing with 11 points, five rebounds and an assist.

Player to watch for Colorado

Freshman McKinley Wright. Wright had 10 points in his debut game for the Buffaloes. “It was fun,” Wright said. “I had a great time out there playing with my guys and we are excited for the season.”

Coach Tad Boyle has high praise for McKinley….”He’s the best freshman nobody’s talking about nationally right now. They should be and guess what? In time, they will. He’s as dialed in on defense as he is on offense — his motor, his intensity. You can’t teach what he’s got. He’s special.”

The Buffaloes opened the season with eight players making their debut following heavy roster turnover in the offseason. The newcomers got their feet wet in the opener but it was two of their returnees, King and Miller-Stewart, who led the way in the season-opening victory. They’ll be counted on to provide leadership on a youthful team.

What to know about Denver

Denver comes into this season following a 16-14 campaign last year. The Pioneers started out 9-5 but couldn’t string together more than two wins in a row the rest of the season, closing out with five losses in their final six games.

The Pioneers began their season on a sour note with an 83-69 loss to UC Irvine. Joe Rosga was the top scorer for Denver with 15 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals, also going 8-for-8 from the line. Daniel Amigo registered a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Pioneers.

Prediction

Surprisingly, the line for this game is only (-12) for the Buffaloes. I expect them to not only win but to cover those points as well. Expect a rout at home.
