Derrick Rose

Will the woes ever end for Bulls’ fans? Every time the team its gets hopes up, something else terrible happens. This time it’s a freak injury to the Chicago Bull’s best player, point guard Derrick Rose

The latest installment in the Derrick Rose drama series is an orbital bone fracture. After taking an errant elbow to the face, Rose will now need surgery Wednesday. The time-table for his recovery will be discussed after the procedure, but there is optimism within the organization that Derrick Rose may be ready to return by the first game of the season. After he’s cleared to play Rose will still need to wear a face mask, to avoid re-injury.

It’s incomparable how a dynamic player like Derrick Rose can’t catch a break. Only four years ago he was one of the NBA’s most dominant players. Winning the MVP in 2011 he was virtually unstoppable. Derrick Rose was the youngest NBA player to ever win the award; at 22 years old it felt like the best was yet to come. Now we fear the best may be in the past.

Teammate Taj Gibson, via CBS Chicago:

He got a little elbow. We don’t know the severity of it, but hopefully he’ll be fine. I know he’s tough, but it was one of those plays, especially in practice, where everybody’s going hard. It’s just tough.

I don’t know [who got him]. It might have been me. It was just one of those plays where everybody’s going so hard, and it’s real physical out there. Hopefully he’ll be OK.

Derrick Rose has played a total of 100 regular season games over the course of the last four seasons for Chicago. Hopefully, after a brief recovery period, he can get back to his same old MVP-self. This shouldn’t be a career changing injury.

Landin Murphy

Landin “Shredder” Murphy has been athletic since early age, quickly developing a propensity for both baseball and swimming. One of Landin’s fondest memories was his youth baseball team narrowly missing out on the opportunity to play in the Little League World Series Final. Unfortunately, during high school Landin was forced to forget his originally preferred sports as a freak basketball injury nearly ended his life. All prospects for Division I sports scholarships evaporated. Despite this set back, Landin focused his energies in new modes, becoming an All-State musician, avid sports journalist and by"Bodybuilding" to stimulate and heal his body. In an effort to assist others, Landin is currently pursuing Pre-Medical, Dosimetry and Sports Medicine degrees.
