De’Veon Smith-RB-Michigan
Size: 5’11 220lbs

De'Veon Smith

Strengths:

  • Size
  • Vision
  • North-South runner
  • Keeps legs moving
  • Finishes runs

Analysis: De’Veon Smith is a big back with ample vision to find running lanes. He is comfortable and efficient on inside zone plays, running decisively. North-south runner who rarely dances. He drives his legs through contact to finish, gaining those extra yards once initially contacted by defenders.

Weaknesses:

  • Below average play speed
  • Agility
  • Not a tackle breaker

Analysis: De’Veon Smith has the size to hang in the NFL, but ultimately his play speed will haunt him. He lacks pro acceleration needed to escape NFL linebackers to the edge, let alone defensive backs and safeties catching him. Watching him find the running lane is solid, but he fails to burst through the lane with conviction—usually getting swallowed up before he can get to the second level. He needs it blocked up on first level to have an impact. Below average eluding tacklers in the hole.

NFL Comparison: Khiry Robinson

Draft Projection: Round 7
