Strengths:

  • NFL pedigree
  • Extremely instinctive
  • Sideline-to-sideline with ease
  • Strong legs drive through upright blockers
  • Solid in coverage
  • Posted 11 passes defensed over last two seasons
  • Great blitzer who disguises well
  • Rarely gets trapped due to false steps
  • Strong lower half
  • Body control through contact

Weaknesses:

  • Undersized
  • Will be forced to outside LB
  • Runs himself out of tackle attempts by coming in too steep
  • Tackling concerns
  • Gets caught guessing too often
  • Takes on too many blocks rather than slipping them
  • Will require better pursuit leverage and feel for angles

Analysis: Bush is the son of former NFL defensive back with the same name–he also played for his dad at Michigan and compiled an impressive career: He had 102 tackles, 9.5 for loss, five sacks, and an interception as a sophomore, earning first-team All-Big Ten honors while also being named a finalist for the Butkus Award as the nation’s top linebacker. He was named a team captain and won the Big Ten’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2018 and an AP second-team All-American selection. He led the Wolverines with 80 stops, 9.5 for loss, five sacks, and six pass breakups in 12 games as a junior. Bush is undersized and that will turn some scouts away–he will likely be a WILL LB at the next level, but that won’t stop him from making plays. Sure, he will get engulfed by blockers at times, but his play strength and ability to run and cover are extremely valuable in today’s game and should not be diminished due to a tape measurement. He will likely hear his name called on Day 1 of the NFL Draft.

Size: 5’11 234lbs

Draft Rank: No. 3 LB

NFL Comparison: Dexter Coakley

Draft Projection: Round 1-2
