Strengths:

  • Loves the game
  • Addicted to the film room
  • Extremely high football IQ
  • Productive in the SEC
  • Freakish athlete
  • Weight-room monster with impressive strength numbers across the board
  • Pursuit speed closes the gap allowing for additional tackle opportunities
  • Active hands
  • Just finds the football
  • Loose upper body to spin and pivot around moving blocks

Weaknesses:

  • Can be fooled by key fakes and misdirection
  • Coaxed out of position two different times by the same run play versus Alabama
  • Ball carriers win leverage battles
  • Needs better breakdown technique before tackle
  • Scouts challenge his coverage abilities due to lack of ‘challenges’

Analysis: The former running back in high school looks like he can stay lineup in the backfield and take a few hand-offs, but his maturation as a linebacker has been nothing short of impressive. White flourished in 2017, leading the SEC with 133 tackles and topping the Tigers with 14 tackles for loss (4.5 sacks) in 13 starts to earn a permanent team captaincy and MVP award as well as first-team all-conference and second-team USA Today All-American honors. He delivered again as a junior, earning first-team All-SEC and AP All-American accolades while winning the Butkus Award as the top linebacker in the country after starting 12 of 13 games played–he missed the first half of LSU’s 2018 loss to Alabama due to a targeting call made during the team’s win over Mississippi State (it was not targeting in my opinion). Ultimately, he led the Tigers with 123 stops, 12 of which were TFL’s including three sacks, six pass breakups, and three forced fumbles. He is still raw, and he will need to get with his position coach at the next level to better take on blocks, but he is a film room geek and will do whatever it takes to succeed at the next level. One of my favorites prospects to watch on tape and I have a feeling he will have a standout NFL career.
