Ali Marpet- Offensive Guard- Hobart
Size: 6’4 310lbs

untitled (45)

Strengths:

  • Quick feet
  • Stays low- good balance
  • Played well against top competition- Senior Bowl
  • Solid fundamentals for a Division III player

Analysis: Marpet is a solid lineman coming from Division III school Hobart.  He has sound technique, playing mostly tackle in college, he will shift inside to guard at the NFL level.  Watching Marpet, I believe he will end up playing center in the pros.  At Senior Bowl practices, Marpet stood tall against top prospects Danny Shelton and Carl Davis beating them soundly in 1-on-1 drills.

Need to Improve:

  • Coming from Division III
  • Short/choppy legs
  • Has a tendency to lunge at defensive lineman

Analysis: Any player coming from lesser competition (Division III) will have their question marks surrounding them, but Marpet answered a lot of those questions Senior Bowl week.  Lunging at lineman at the next level will get Marpet’s quarterback killed–something an offensive line coach will drill into Ali day one.  Marpet’s technique is solid, but the shift from tackle to interior guard or center will take some adjustment.

Round Prediction: 4-5

NFL Comparison: AQ Shipley
