Strengths:

  • Strong Arm to all areas of field
  • Pure throwing motion
  • Accurate on deep balls
  • Great mobility and acceleration

Analysis: Hundley’s raw ability has impressed scouts since he stepped onto the football field at UCLA.  Hundley’s dual-threat ability and cannon arm makes him intriguing for many NFL teams on draft day.  If Hundley can focus on the game itself and commit to learning an NFL system, he has the talent to be a successful starting quarterback in this league.  The UCLA product can make all the throws to any spot on the field.  Watching tape on Hundley, it was clear to me, he is very accurate on deep balls 40+ yards–and is not afraid to take his chances deep during a game.

Need to Improve:

  • Medium to short range accuracy
  • Reading defenses
  • Going through progressions
  • Mental toughness- Admitted his play in 2014 was affected by NFL scouts
  • Holds ball too long- sacked 123 times during his career at UCLA
  • Needs to keep eyes downfield when pressured-looks to run too quickly
  • Strictly shotgun passer

Analysis: While Hundley has all the talent in the world, he was never able to completely put it together at UCLA.  He struggled against lesser competition in college which makes you ponder if his head is completely in the game.  Hundley locks onto his primary receiver and struggles going through his progressions-especially when the pocket breaks down.  Hundley was pressured quite a bit, and the more tape I saw, the more Hundley would scramble away from the pressure–each time dropping his eyes to what is in front of him, instead of keeping them on his receivers.  There will be NFL teams lining up to draft Hundley, but I would contend he is closer to a BUST, than a great quarterback.

Round Prediction: 1-3….I would not draft him before round 5

NFL Comparison: Colin Kaepernick, Terrelle Pryor
