Strengths:

  • Good run blocker
  • Decent route running
  • Good run after catch
  • Locates ball well
  • Beat defensive backs at Senior Bowl

Analysis: Walford has become MFST’s #1 tight end, something he was not a few months ago.  The more tape I watch on Walford, the more impressed I become.  Watching Senior Bowl practices, Walford routinely dominated linebackers and defensive backs in 1-on-1 drills.  Walford won’t blow you away with athleticism, but the NFL team that drafts him will be getting a very good blocker who can stretch the field in the passing game.  Potential Pro-Bowler.

Need to Improve:

  • Drops- 10 in 2012-2013 season
  • Consistency- can he be a focal point of an offense?
  • Lacks elite speed/athleticism

Analysis: Walford will need to show NFL teams he can be relied on in the passing attack–Clive has had drops in games that are simply unacceptable.  While Walford was dominant at Senior Bowl practices, at times on game film Walford’s route running left a lot to be desired, more effort than talent based.

Round Prediction: 2-3

NFL Comparison: Jermaine Gresham
