untitled (37)

Strengths:

  • Strong
  • Well-Conditioned
  • Dominant against the run
  • Good leverage
  • Space-eater
  • Beats single blockers- holds up well against double teams

Analysis: Watching tape on Danny Shelton showed me just how dominant this 340 pound behemoth can be.  Strength is not an issue for Danny, who pushed around offensive lineman-seemingly at will.  Shelton takes up a lot of space in the interior of the defensive line, and is my best bet to be the best d-lineman against the run in this draft class.  One part of Shelton’s game that impressed me is the fact that he played over 75% of Washington’s defensive snaps in 2014, quite a feat for such a large man.  If his head stays in the game, Shelton can easily warrant a top five pick in this draft.

Need to Improve:

  • Weight fluctuates
  • Must be consistent against op level competition
  • Doesn’t give 100% every play

Analysis: While Shelton’s physical gifts will make him a top draft pick, he will need to work hard to warrant that position in the NFL.  Shelton did produce 9 sacks in 2014, most coming against less than stellar football competition.  When Shelton would go up against the best, he did not stand out and at times disappeared.

Round Prediction: Top 10
