Draft Profile: Shane Ray
Shane Ray- Defensive End- Missouri
Size: 6’3 245lbs
2013 Stats: 39 tackles 4.5 sacks 9 tackles for loss
2014 Stats: 61 tackles 14 sacks 19 tackles for loss
- Violent hands- great rip move
- Great pass rusher
- Good footwork
- Mean streak
Analysis: Shane Ray is a bad, bad man when he steps onto the football field. Ray’s violence and aggression is shown every play as he gives all out effort. He will never give up on a play, and consistently gets effort sacks and tackles. Very athletic and powerful, Ray will explode out of his stance and use his superior leverage to beat offensive lineman. His rip move is already mastered, and I am confident it will immediately work at the next level. Ray will be a starter and contribute to a NFL team from day one.
Need to Improve:
- Greater variety of pass rush moves
- Has trouble escaping bigger lineman
Analysis: Ray, while physically dominant, had trouble breaking away from larger lineman’s blocks. Watching game film, it seemed Shane would focus too much on his one on one battle with the opposing lineman rather than following the ball. Besides rip and swim moves Ray’s pass rush bank is empty. To be elite he will need to perfect more moves.
Round Prediction: Top 10
