Drew Lock scouting report
(USA TODAY Sports)

Strengths:

  • Arm talent
  • Prototypical size
  • Throws with anticipation
  • Quick release
  • Moves DB’s with eyes
  • Low sack total due to mobility and feel for edge pressure
  • Completion percentage lower because of constant drops
  • Confident in game and ability

Weaknesses:

  • Inconsistent touch
  • Want more from throws on the run
  • Decision-making worsens with pressure
  • Footwork gets lazy at times
  • Too much power on slants/crossing routes

Analysis: Lock is an extremely talented prospect who can be a Pro Bowler in the NFL if he puts it all together. His arm strength and football IQ are prevalent. He understands how to diagnose defenses and looks defensive backs off with his eyes while going through his progressions. His arm is lively and he can make any throw–sometimes he puts too much power behind his throws when he should provide more touch on his passes. When pressure is in his face his decision-making begins to suffer, along with his footwork. Throwing on his back leg was consistent negative I saw on film–however, he is elusive and surprisingly mobile in and outside of the pocket–but his numbers fall off when asked to throw on the run. He would have put up a lot better numbers at Mizzou if his receivers knew how to catch a football. He reminds me of Jake Plummer so much–can be an All-Pro one game and leave you scratching your head the next. If he gets with the right coaching staff, he might be able to a be a very good franchise-type guy at the next level.
