Duke Cruises Past Hartford 84-54
With the No. 3 ranked Duke Blue Devis (7-1), hosting the University of Hartford (3-6), Coach Mike Krzyzewski and company look to win their third straight as the Hartford Hawks look to start a streak of their own and win their second straight.
As the first half came to an end, the Hawks had a competitive game on their hand as they trailed 24-33, shooting 33.3% as a team, and 22.2% form beyond the arc compared to Duke’s 40% from the field and 18.8% from beyond the arc. As the second half started, the Hawks remained in the game, giving a competitive fight and even pulled within 8 points of the Blue Devils with 12 minutes remaining. But that would be as close as the Hawks would get, as Duke was able to pull away, led by Freshman standouts R.J. Barrett who scored 17 point, on 6-6 shooting and 7 rebounds in the second half, and Zion Williamson with 12 points, on 5-8 shooting and 6 rebounds. As the final buzzer rang, the Blue Devils came away with their 8th victory of the season, and handed the Hawks their 7th loss in the 30-point victory, 84-54.
As a team, the Blue Devils shot 35-69 (50.7%) from the field, 5-26 from 3PT (19.2%). The Hawks finished the contest shooting a poor 20-61 (32.8%) from the field, and although they had a better shooting from beyond the arc, 8-27, (29.6%), they were out-rebounded 34 to 46, and committed 21 turnovers compared to Duke’s 13. The Blue Devils were led by Barrett (27 PTS, 15 REB, 4 AST, 10-14) and Williamson (18 PTS, 12 REB, 3 STL, 1 BLK) who combined for a whopping 45 PTS, 27 REB, 5 AST, including several highlight reels.
