Dwayne haskins scouting report
(USA TODAY Sports)

Strengths:

  • Elite production
  • Throwing motion is beauty
  • Powerful arm
  • Willing to stand in and take the hit to deliver the ball
  • Can throw from different arm angles
  • Can sense pressure coming from the edge
  • Goes through progressions
  • Confident in game
  • Mentored by former NFL players throughout life

Weaknesses:

  • One year wonder?
  • Front side can fly open causing throws to sail
  • Want to see more knowledge of zone coverage concepts
  • Anticipation is lacking
  • Lacks touch on passes
  • Not very accurate
  • Chubby and I question athleticism
  • Slow feet
  • Fumble issues

Analysis: Haskins was one of the most productive quarterbacks in college football his lone season as a starter at Ohio State, but how many QB’s are successful in the NFL with that little of a sample size in college? The answer: not many. He has the arm strength NFL scouts drool over and can go through progressions when his primary target is not open, but he has a lot of holes in his game that I would have liked him improve upon in college. His anticipatory throws are non-existent and his front side flies open too often causing balls to sail on him. The system at Ohio State does not translate to the NFL game–he was helped greatly by short crossing patterns and screens. His deep ball is a thing of beauty when he connects, but he could learn to add more touch on his throws. While he can sense pressure in front and from the edge, his feet are slow and lethargic which is a recipe for disaster at the next level. He reminds me of Byron Leftwich who had some decent seasons in the NFL, but was not worthy a first round selection–something I am worried will happen to Haskins and whichever team potenitally selects him on Day 1.

Size: 6’3 231lbs

Draft Rank: No.4 QB

NFL Comparison: Byron Leftwich

Draft Projection: Day 2 pick
