Dynasty Recap & Review: “Poor Little Rich Girl”
On Friday night’s episode of Dynasty, Fallon, her fake husband, Liam, and Jeff Colby deal with the aftermath of last week’s episode, Steven and Sam get married during Tom Carrington’s funeral, and the infamous Alexis Carrington finally shows up.
After the mess of Fallon and Jeff’s wedding from last week, Fallon tries to avoid the whole situation, including Jeff and the press. But Jeff doesn’t take it and basically starts a smear campaign against her by making her look like the bad guy. Fallon tries to get Liam to make appearances with her at the funeral but he could care less about the extra money Fallon tries to throw at him and definitely doesn’t appreciate all the paparazzi at his apartment. But as you can see from the picture, he eventually changed his mind and came with her instead of going to his aunt’s barbecue that he was supposed to go to. Monica sees that he’s clearly been taking his revenge way too far and gets their dad to live with her instead of Jeff after she’s finding out that Cecil literally scared a heart attack out of Tom Carrington.
Speaking of Tom, he ends up dying after that heart attack which leaves Anders taking care of the funeral arrangements and Cristal pushing Blake to grieve over his deceased father. In Tom’s will, he details his wishes for the funeral arrangements, which include a performance from his grandchildren (which was just a nice way to see Liz Gillies sing again, even if we only got to see 30 seconds of their rehearsal), and his wish for Blake to fetch a book at their old house in Savannah so that he could be buried with it.
Blake, in his resistance to grieve, refuses at first but is eventually convinced and goes out to Savannah to retrieve this book, whatever it is. But it turns out Tom seemingly only wanted Blake to get the book so that he would find that the book is hollowed out with a video that Alexis, Blake’s ex-wife, had Tom film saying that he loved his son, which is a rarity in itself. And it’s not until after he sees that video that he realizes that despite his father’s bitterness, he really did love him.
Meanwhile, Sam gets a letter from ICE that indicates that they know that he’s undocumented, which they only know because Tom called the authorities on him before he died. But he doesn’t know that, at least not until later when Anders tells him that he found ICE’s number in Tom’s recent call log.
But regardless, Steven doesn’t find out until right before he’s supposed to speak at his grandfather’s ceremony from Melissa Daniels, who shows up again for this episode for the funeral. Among other things. But before then, Steven goes to her for help so that she can ask her husband, the senator, even though he’s completely against it. She agrees, but only after he sleeps with her because apparently, she’s the only girlfriend he’s ever had. And that is by far the weirdest and creepiest revelation in the entire episode.
Later after Steven finds out that his grandfather was the one who called ICE, he goes up to talk about him at his funeral. Instead, he ends up talking about Sam and how much he loves him for trying to protect his memory of his grandfather and then proposes. And he does all this while speaking Spanish and they end up getting married during Blake’s talk, which is also when the notorious Alexis Carrington shows up. Which unfortunately is where the episode ends: with the scene from the promo of Alexis showing up late and saying that traffic was a bitch.
After all of that build up of getting to see Alexis in this episode, it was disappointing to see that it didn’t go beyond what we already saw in the promo. But in the preview for next week’s episode, we find out that Tom left Alexis the Carrington mansion, if you will. In turn, it ensues a big fight between Alexis and Fallon, which is, at the very least, is something to look forward to.
