Dynasty Recap & Review: “Use or Be Used”
On Friday night’s episode of Dynasty, Fallon ends her blooming relationship slash fake marriage with Liam, Blake blackmails Cristal with issues concerning Carrington Atlantic, and Alexis partners up with an unlikely ally (probably) so that she can manipulate Blake.
First, Steven goes off to look for his long-lost older brother, Adam, by tracking down his kidnapper. He looks while communicating with his mom about his findings thus far, still with plenty of hope that he’ll find him, unlike Alexis who’s hope in addition to all of her money.
After last week’s episode, Liam asks Fallon out on their official first date while Alexis is still suspicious of him. Alexis continues to meddle in Fallon’s love life by conveniently telling Fallon about Culhane’s father being in the hospital right before Fallon goes on her date with Liam. Fallon ends up leaving mid-way to go see Culhane and his family at the hospital but both Fallon and Culhane are left a little disappointed.
Culhane’s mother tells Fallon to stay away from him while Alexis tells Culhane that she loves him. Both are expecting different outcomes when they finally come face to face, thus furthering the complicated nature of their relationship. But after that, Fallon decides to have a redo with Liam and takes him to a fashion event for their first date, with Alexis attending the same event.
There, they find Jeff Colby, who returns drunk, angry, and all around distraught over what happened with Fallon, both personally and professionally. But Jeff ends up confronting Fallon, blaming her for ruining his reputation and what happened between him and his family and Liam stands up for her, which ends with Jeff puking on Sam’s shoes.
Honestly, the drama between Jeff and his family were admittingly rough, but I think the entire situation was just as much his fault as it was Fallon’s. But overall, it was really just rich people drama. But even with Jeff’s outwardly drunk outburst, Alexis goes to him at the end of the episode because they have a common enemy: Blake Carrington.
But this little stunt of his didn’t just result in his new partnership with Alexis, it also revealed who Liam really is. Apparently his real name is Jack Lowden and Liam Ridley is just his middle name. He’s also a journalist who comes from a rich family, who is apparently just as dysfunctional as the Carringtons. At first, Fallon and Alexis both think that he’s just using Fallon so that he can write a tell-all book about the Carrington family. So Fallon breaks it off from him, with the realization that her mom was right about him.
Except she wasn’t. Not exactly anyway. Liam leaves but drops off his book’s manuscript off with Alexis and he tells her that his book wasn’t about the Carringtons, but it was about his own family. He leaves the manuscript and asks Alexis to give it to Fallon so that she’ll know the truth. So of course, Alexis burns it after he leaves because the fact that Fallon thinks that Alexis was right about him got them to bond a little. But it’s still weird that he leaves it with Alexis and not Fallon.
Meanwhile, Cristal and Blake deal with the health concerns that arise out of Carrington Atlantic’s toxic waste leak. That same leak that caused Culhane’s father to get sick. But Blake goes to an all new low by making Cristal believe that he really cared about making it right, when really he just tries to make the whole situation disappear. All while getting something to blackmail Cristal with. It’s honestly still crazy to me that those two are still together given everything they’ve been through. And it’ll be even crazier if they’re still together after this.
