FA Community Shield

The Premier League is back on! Defending champions Leicester City will face defending F.A Cup champions Manchester United on Sunday.

Both teams will be under immense pressure to perform well, as both teams have much to prove this season. Leicester City had a Cinderella season in winning the Premier League title. One of their key players, midfielder N’Golo Kante left the team for Chelsea earlier in the summer transfer window. The departure will test their strength in the central midfield with players such as Danny Drinkwater and newcomer Nampalys Mendy being likely the top targets to run central. Ahmed Musa is another newcomer to the team and is hoping to provide a spark in the attack next to star player Jamie Vardy. There is doubt Leicester can defend their title even against the better odds than last season. This game will serve as a test of chemistry built so far and how effective their new transfers are.

Manchester United are coming off a season which was equally successful as disappointing. This game will be Mourinho’s first chance to win silverware with United. With a reputation of a title in his first season, Mourinho will no doubt expect his team to dominate the table and cup competitions ahead. For this game, Mourinho will be deploying new tactics and new players Leicester haven’t seen before. Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan will be making their regular season debuts and are two key signings for United. Ibrahimovic’s reputation speaks for itself, while Mkhitaryan’s last season with Borussia Dortmund was filled with goals and assists that bested a combination of United players. Throughout the season, the focus on those players and altogether if they can work with the rest of the United squad to win a title will be the key.

The game will be played at Wembley Stadium with kickoff at 11am ET.
