FanDuel Value Player of the Day: Jose Altuve
With the world of daily fantasy leagues becoming increasingly popular, MFST will look at the “value” player of the day. Usually, this player is a low-cost, high-reward type of guy. Today’s edition will be a little different, as we choose Houston Astros second baseman, Jose Altuve. Altuve is the second most-expensive 2B, coming in at $4,000, but he is worth every penny.
Obviously, most baseball fans know Altuve, who led the AL in batting average and stolen bases in 2014. So far this season he has not missed a beat, batting just shy of .300 with 1 HR, 7 RBI, and 5 SB. He has hit safely in nine of his last ten games and has shaken off the rust from early in the season (he owns a .320+ BA in those ten games).
The reason Jose is a must-play in FanDuel today is the matchup. He has a history of raking against the Mariners, that includes a career .311 BA with 2 HR and 23 RBI which is his most against team in the MLB. The Mariners throw out the left-handed J.A. Happ to start, who owns a solid 2.57 ERA, but Altuve is a career .353 hitter against lefties, and has hit over .420 against them in his last 175 plate appearances, according to Baseball Reference.
Those numbers are guaranteed to pick up crucial points in daily leagues today. Altuve might not hit for power, but he will get on-base and currently leads the AL with five stolen bases. You will not have to worry about the dreaded negative numbers in fantasy baseball on FanDuel, as we know, those can crush the hopes of a solid lineup.
