Fate of the Furious review SPOILER FREE
Fate of the Furious is the eighth installment of the Fast and the Furious movie Franchise. Yup I said it EIGHTH. Amazing right, just to think this all started with the B-level Fast and the Furious street racing movie, and has now evolved into an A-level heist super high-stakes movie box office juggernaut.
If you think the stakes were high in the last movie, just wait till you see this one and see how much higher they’ve been raised.
Without further adieu, here’s my Spoiler free review of Fate of The Furious:
First thing first, the trailers does not do this movie justice. I definitely enjoyed the movie and I think F. Gary Gray did an awesome job in bringing this movie to life. I have actually enjoyed all his work. I mean he did bring us The Italian Job, and Straight Outta Compton.
In terms of the story, and action, this movie ups the ridiculousness and unrealistic action a notch. Even bigger than the last movie. It also helps that I saw it in iMAX, do yourself a favor and see it in iMAX if you can.
The movie opens with a huge car chase/race scene that brings it back to its Fast and Furious roots.
They are also a lot of surprises sprinkled into the movie that the trailers didn’t show that were so good and brought the story up and actually made you care for something (Family, which seems to still be the underlying story point in the franchise) other than fast cars and explosions.
Also the movie and franchise is trying to move away from Paul Walker, and it gave us another Paul Walkeresque character some people might think it’s Scott Eastwood, but I personally think Jason Statham, I mean he can definitely hold his own with the likes of Vin Diesel, and Dwayne Johnson. (I’ll leave that up to you to decide when it finally drops).
However, some members of the crew need to be dropped for he next movie.
Tyrese and Ludacris banter is good, actually a little better than it’s been in the past.
Charlize Theron as the villain was fantastic, and she raises the stakes so high even though it’s unbelievable, you still care and keeps the story good.
Vin and Dwayne deliver as always, this is Vin’s baby and he has taken care to make sure he is great and remain the star in this. Dwayne while good, had some corny flat jokes in this one, but he’s still good in this.
The action as I said is amazing but Director F. Gary Gray handles this movie so brilliantly, even in the slow moments. I wouldn’t be surprised if they brought him back for another, or he gets to helm an even bigger franchise (WB/DC you still need a Flash director).
All-in-all, I liked this movie and I think it’s equal to or even better than Fast 7.
If you’re a fan of the previous movies, and are not opposed to the movie asking you to ignore the laws of Physics for a good car chase, and dope explosions. Then this movie is for you.
If you asked me, it was surprisingly good, and I will be seeing it again.
Fate of The Furious opens April 14th in theaters.
