Battlefield 1 burst into the gaming scene and made a huge impression, becoming the most liked trailer on YouTube ever. Meanwhile it’s competitor Call of Duty Infinite Warfare us sitting at the bottom of YouTube becoming the most disliked video in the history of the website.

I am a huge Battlefield fan. Pouring hundreds of hours into multiple games each. Here’s 5 reasons I’m excited for the poorly named Battlefield 1.

  1. World War 1

No major game has been set during the first great war. This is brand new ground, it’s a whole new thing for a lot of gamers which makes it exciting. By looking to the past DICE is innovating.

  1. Weapons

World War I was a time of major weapons development, and lead to some especially unique and interesting weaponry. I can’t wait to fire a Mauser 9, Maxim Machine gun, or fire of canisters of deadly gas. While plenty of games are moving towards laser beams and smart pistols, a lot of people want simple and effective weaponry.

  1. Close Quarters Combat

Fix Bayonets! The first thing that goes through people’s heads when they think of World War I is trench warfare. We saw a preview of the brutal hand-to-hand combat in the trailer, and I can’t wait to see what types of melee weapons will be available and how they play out in real time combat. We saw a trench club, I’m hoping for some trench pikes and machetes.

  1. Map Opportunities

World War I was fought in a multitude of locations including deserts, fields, forests and jungles. The battlefields were so varied that the multilayer map possibilities are staggering.

  1. Vehicles

No more jets with lock on missiles and tanks with active armor protection. Battlefield I is set to bring in planes with forwards firing machine guns, tanks with howitzers on the sides and Zeppelins. Freaking Zeppelins! The trailer also hinted to horses as a usable means of transportation.
