Foley Fatukasi Draft Profile

Foley Fatukasi draft profile

Strengths:

  • Well-proportioned frame with good muscle mass
  • Has brute power to challenge a blocker’s edges and constrict rush lanes
  • Has two-gap potential, with more technique work
  • Raw but talented
  • Has necessary size and strength to play play nose or three-technique in a 4-3 and defensive end in a 3-4
  • Uses hands and leg drive to cave the pocket and force quarterbacks to move
  • Flashed a fluid spin move that could have some legs on next level
  • Punishing hands

Analysis: Foley Fatukasi is raw but talented and offers a well-built, versatile defender who can be played at a variety of positions by teams who employ varied defensive fronts. Fatukasi’s flashes of power and disruption could be foreshadowing a future as a quality NFL starter with the ability to play on passing downs if he can reach his potential. He can play anywhere along the defensive front in multiple schemes. His spin move was not utilized a lot, but when he puts it all together it will be a nightmare for offensive lines in the NFL. Hands are powerful and help Fatukasi gain leverage and ground. Raw but if he puts the work in he can be special.

Weaknesses:

  • Plays with some tightness in his knees
  • Production as run defender is average
  • Lateral movement below average
  • Inconsistent in recognition of blocking schemes
  • Struggles against down blocks
  • Shed timing is below average
  • Pass rush would improve with greater focus
  • Plays out of control often

Analysis: Foley Fatukasi is a developmental defensive line prospect who could blossom into a special player if he takes to coaching and hones in on his technique. He needs to improve at the point of attack, but that could happen if he’s asked to slant less and improves technique as a two-gapper. He is still learning the game of football and does not diagnose/understand blocking schemes at this point in his career. He struggles against down blocks, mainly because he doesn’t recognize them coming. At times, Fatukasi can play out of control and that affects his balance–easily getting pushed off his spot by strong lineman. Tightness in hips, knees and lacks the lateral movement you covet. Will need to learn to shed blocks quicker at the next level.
