Last week Food Network Star aired at 9:00 pm. They went through auditioning until the final 12 was chosen. Their assignment was to make a dish they felt represented where each chef was from. My friend Jason Smith made a goat cheese caramelized onion filo tart.

Although there are many great chefs competing I want to focus each weeks episode mainly around Jason. It’s not everyday you meet such a funny , unique, lovable guy who is being cheered on by both Kentucky and Ohio natives. We are very proud of how far Jason has come.

Episode two opened with Bobby and Giada asking the contestants to make a dish centered around Beauty and the Beast. They each were divided into teams. Each team were given a room in the castle and brunch hor’dourves or dinner etc. They also were judged on their presentation and decorating skills besides their dish.

The judges decided that fine French cuisine should be featured in everyone’s dishes. Jason was more than happy since he loved the idea of being able to decorate in an elaborate ballroom. He loved the idea of flowers and candelabras decorating the room. Jason himself loves to garden and was a former florist. Two chefs went to a french market to buy everyone on their teams recipe items but only had a budget of $750.00.

Needless to say items were lost or forgotten. Luckily Jason’s dish didn’t suffer. Jason made a herb polenta with sauteed shrimp and a tomato gravy.

Two chefs were sent home Nancy and Toya left the competition. Both the Library team and the Ballroom team were safe. Jason is in the Top 3 two weeks in a row. You can check back again next week to see if he stays in the competition.
