Food Network Star episode 5 Recap
On tonight’s episode of Food Network Star the eight remaining contestant were divided into two-man teams. Jason and David, Rusty and Corey, Matt and Addy, Cao and Amy.
They were each given a different budget and a different set of people to cook for and they had to present it via an Instagram story.
Cao and Amy’s budget was $30.00. They fixed honey mustard chicken thighs with veggies for a family of eight.
Jason and David’s budget was $45.00 for six people. Their recipe was a cast iron salmon with shrimp cream sauce and spinach.
Corey and Rusty’s was for a couple on a date night and their budget was $25.00. They cooked a pork tenderloin with root vegetables and fried herbs.
Matt and Addy had a budget of under $20.00 and they fixed roasted red pepper chicken tenderloin pasta with cheese.
Matt and Addy won that round simply for their Instagram story which had both of their personalities play off each other well. The next challenge consisted of a member of each team choosing a number and having to each be pitted against their former team member. Each contestant had to deal with a cooking dilemma in a different way. The meal was to be cooked in 30 minutes and presented during a live cooking demo.
Cao and Amy chose No.3 which was ‘flavor bomb’ with beef tacos. Amy fixed beef taco’s with lime tomatillo salsa with avocados and jalapenos. Cao fixed beef with lemongrass avocado lime salsa with fish sauce, however her taco shells crumbled and the dish had to be plated.
Jason fixed summer vegetable Italian succotash with crushed tomatoes, onions zucchini, squash, mushrooms, sausage and eggplant. David made a jerk rubbed flank steak with bacon sweet potato hash in a pan.
Corey and Rusty had to use a grocery store staple of crescent rolls. Corey made an heirloom tomato pie with relish and ricotta cheese. Rusty made a crab-corn type pie you ate holding in your hands.
Matt and Addy’s challenge was making leftovers new again. Matt made turkey taquitos. Addy made ‘hammies’ and french fry chips.
Cao didn’t fix a thing during the demo and seemed as if she had never used an immersion blender before. Amy messed up by filling up the processor and not putting the lid on it and the device wouldn’t turn on.
Jason aced the demo perfectly. David left out info the judges felt was important and didn’t acknowledge the host (Sunny Anderson from The Kitchen).
Rusty did well, showing off his vibrant personality. Corey spent too much time down memory lane in the garden his family had as a child and ran out of time.
Matt did well too but Addy needed to work on her presentation skills, which seemed to falter. Although Matt thought he was helping by pitching in during Addy’s segment, he got in the way and Addy was visibly frustrated.
David’s dish was okay. As for Jason’s, the judges thought it was overcooked. They loved the taste and his tip of adding vinegar to okra to get rid of the slimy texture. One of many funny things Jason said was when a judge reprimanded a contestant to hurry up and cook the dish. The judge said if it was a party the guy should have been taking a final look in the mirror to comb his hair before leaving. Jason replied, “I ain’t got no hair” in a heavy Kentucky accent.
Matt’s dish lacked flavor. Addy’s presentation was sloppy but they loved her dish. Rusty won the judges over with his dish. Corey’s dish didn’t come together as his tomato made the crescent-crust soggy. Both Cao and Amy’s dishes were enjoyed by the judges.
The contestants that were safe this week were: Jason, Matt, Rusty, Amy, Addy and Corey. David and Cao were in the bottom two this week and ultimately the judges sent Cao home unhappy.https://www.myfantasysportstalk.com/food-network-star-episode-5-recap/https://i1.wp.com/www.myfantasysportstalk.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/food_network_star_7207.jpg?fit=620%2C284&ssl=1https://i1.wp.com/www.myfantasysportstalk.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/food_network_star_7207.jpg?resize=150%2C150&ssl=1EntertainmentRecent PostsTV ShowsFood Network StarOn tonight's episode of Food Network Star the eight remaining contestant were divided into two-man teams.
