Food Network Star

For most of you guys keeping up with our articles or on TV. You will know yesterday was the Food Network Star season 13 finale.

After an enjoyable season which had a load of great moments, fantastic dishes and a tear or two shed–we had three contestants in the running for their own TV show. They met with judges Bobby Flay and Giada De Laurentiis at the Kings Theatre. All the former contestants from this season were also in attendance.

The judges started first with Rusty Hamlin.Rusty was at times loud and had trouble conversing when presenting his demos to the judges. They did find him likable, with his outgoing demeanor and personality. He filmed his pilot for Magee’s restaurant famous for its French dip au jus.

Cory Bahr was second presenting. Since the show, he loved touting his accomplishments (specifically beating Bobby Flay) on social media and the judges kidded him about it. His presentation’s have left something to be desired but they agreed his food was delicious. Cory was originally sent home but won Food Network Star Salvation. He demoed Loteria grill last week they agreed he had a wonderful personality. Cory continued to grow as a person, chef and more importantly a food personality throughout the season.

Jason Smith was third to present. He became tearful watching his demo for Monsieur Marcell last week. The judges found him to be unique and funny. Suzanne loved his pilot–which could have been a curse after watching Suzanne struggle to make it through three weeks of the competition.

After the three pilots were aired, the judges eliminated one from the competition. It was an obvious difficult decision, but Cory was sent home, leaving Jason and Rusty competing for the title.

The remainder of the show was highlights with judges and contestants reminiscing about the show this season and what they learned. Including highlights with guest judges: Sandra Lee, Tiffani Thiessen, Anne Burrell and Robert Irvine to name a few.

Ultimately, the network and star judges chose the Kentucky-native, Jason Smith as champion and owner of the title, Next Food Network Star.

Congratulations Jason on achieving a dream you have had for so long. Jason has been a friend of the site, giving us access to interviews as well as continuous shout-outs on social media. Jason remains humble despite becoming an overnight celebrity. We here at MFST know Jason will continue to thrive and live out his dream–and for that we could not be more proud.
