Former Florida Gators QB Jeff Driskel has been named the starting quarterback for the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs this fall. Driskel, who started 21 games for the Gators during his career, never lived up to the expectations placed on him as a top recruit coming out of high school.

Bulldogs head coach Skip Holtz had picked Driskel over Ryan Higgins, who had played in 14 games in his first two seasons with the team. Holtz was quoted saying, “Just looking at the numbers from the whole body of work through spring practice, I felt Jeff Driskel gave us the best opportunity as a quarterback. That’s when we looked at him and said he will be our starter.”

Driskel will look to lead La Tech as they play a difficult non-conference schedule that includes Kansas State and Mississippi State on the road. In Conference USA, the Bulldogs are the favorite to take home the title with 13 returning starters after losing the championship game last season to Marshall 26-23.
