In honor of actress Kylie Bunbury’s birthday this week, I felt this would be a good time to share my perspective on her show, Pitch. I grew up going to all of my brother’s little league games and watching MLB games with him and my father. My grandfather played minor league baseball as well.

My first major league game was a Houston Astros night game. It was hot and the crowd was loud. I ate Crackerjacks even though I hated them and I loved it. When FOX began promotions for their new series, Pitch, I was ecstatic and quickly added it to my list of shows to watch. When the series aired, I live-tweeted along with others fan. From the jump, I was hooked. Pitch was one of the first series I regularly wrote about for MFST. pitch

As the series continued and I interacted with other fans, articles started being published about the show’s disappointing numbers and the possibility of it not being renewed for a second season. The fans wasted no time using and creating hashtags like #RenewPitch and #KeepHerInTheGame (created by Pitch Street Team).

In its ten episodes, Pitch gave viewers well-rounded and multifaceted characters. The cast is amazing and diverse. With Kylie (Under The Dome, Twisted) starring as Ginny Baker, viewers both young and old saw a woman holding her own in the face of pressure and adversity in both her personal and professional life. Mark-Paul Gosselaar (Saved By the Bell, Franklin & Bash) gave consistently great performances as the veteran catcher Mike Lawson. I could go on and on about the talent in this cast from Meagan Holder and Mo McRae to Mark Consuelos.

FOX should absolutely renew Pitch. Fans all over the world need a show like it on television. The partnership with the MLB can be utilized in so many amazing ways. I’m saying that from the standpoint of a fan who has a degree in advertising and public relations. I can’t tell you how many tweets I saw about fans wanting Ginny Baker merchandise. I would rock a Ginny Baker jersey any day the same way I rock my other MLB jerseys.

If you’re a fan of Pitch, keep reaching out to FOXTV. Tweet them, write letters. Some fans are even sending postcards and baseballs with messages about the show. If you need some guidance or want to know what others are doing to show their support, I would suggest checking out Pitch Street Team on Tumblr. They’ve been doing a great job organizing things for the fandom.

Need more things to do? Rewatch episodes on FOX’s website and On Demand to add to its numbers. Tell your friends and family about the series. Are you a former softball player like me? Or maybe you played baseball. Get your current and past teammates to check it out.  If you’re a fan of the series, I would love to hear from you. What do you love about the show? Who are your favorite characters? What would you like to see in season two?

Thank for reading! Hey, FOX, keep her in the game!
