Future Star Wars films after 2020
Future Star Wars films after 2020
Now that J.J.Abrams has successfully brought Star Wars back with the fantastic, Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens, the future of the film franchise looks bright. This has brought speculation to what Star Wars films we could be getting down the line as it has been stated that most of us won’t even be alive for the last Star Wars film, so it appears that they have a plan to keep this franchise alive for a long time. Here’s a list of confirmed films that are upcoming for Star Wars:
- Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (14th December 2016)
- Star Wars Episode 8 (17th December 2017) Episode 8 Set photos
- Han Solo: A Star Wars Story (Not official title) (May 2018) Possible actors to play Han Solo
- Star Wars Episode 9 (2019)
- Spin-off Film (2020)
With a list of upcoming films such as this, rumours start to arise with what could be happening in each of these films and what is to come after these films.
The last spin-off is heavily rumoured to be a solo Boba Fett film or possibly a solo Obi-Wan Kenobi outing with Ewan Mcgregor returning to show Obi’s life on Tatooine between Episodes 3 and 4. More heat was added to the fire of the film becoming Obi-Wan centric when recently Ewan Mcgregor stated he would be ‘very interested’ to return to the role to fill the gap between his portrayal of Obi-Wan to Alex Guinness’ portrayal of Obi-Wan. He even stated that there could possibly be a trilogy of Obi-Wan films. It’s a high possibility that we may be seeing Obi-Wan again as he was actually in Episode 7, well his voice was. Ewan Mcgregor recorded a line that was present in Rey’s force vision. Alex Guinness’ voice was also heard saying ‘Rey’ which they were able to get from cutting the word from ‘Afraid’. So it looks like they would be happy to use the character again. I hope we do get to see Obi-Wan return as he is one of my favourite characters from the Star Wars Universe.
Now as Disney is planning to release many more Star Wars films, that means we can theorise with what will happen after the already confirmed films have all been released. As there were many years between the original trilogy and the prequel trilogy and then between the prequel and the sequel trilogy, I do not think we will be having Episode 10 in 2021. So that raises the question with what we could be will be the Star Wars film that year, assuming they are doing one a year. I personally think that the spin-off film in 2020 will be a Boba Fett film. I then think we will be getting an Obi-Wan trilogy with Ewan Mcgregor.
Here’s what a possible line up for the next 12 years after the last announced Star Wars film could be:
- Obi-Wan Film 1 (2021)
- Spin-off (2022)
- Obi-Wan Film 2 (2023)
- Spin-off (2024)
- Obi-Wan Film 3 (2024)
- Spin-off (2025)
- Star Wars Episode 10 (2026)
- Spin-off (2027)
- Star Wars Episode 11 (2028)
- Spin-off (2029)
- Star Wars Episode 12 (2030)
- Spin-off (2031)
Remember that’s just my guess and nothing has been confirmed. I feel like this will be the case as I think they would want to leave a gap between episodes 9 and 10. They also don’t want to stop releasing films altogether so they would want to carry on with spin-off films. I feel that Obi-Wan will receive his own trilogy as Ewan Mcgregor would love to come back and he was one of few favourite things to come from the prequels.
Anyway this is all just an idea and nothing has been confirmed past 2020.
