The inaugural NBA Awards show tips off tonight and most fans know the winners already. There may have been tight races, but ultimately we know who is going to take home the hardware—even the MVP.Westbrook

Tonight will be Russell Westbrook’s night as he will be awarded with the NBA’s MVP award.

Congrats Russ, your manufactured triple-doubles have helped you take home this award. He joined Oscar Robertson as the only player to average a triple-double for the entire season (31.6 points, 10.7 rebounds and 10.4 assists)—great numbers no doubt, but his fourth quarter meltdowns, wild inefficiency and the fact that his teammates have come out and said they did all they could to help Westbrook get those triple-doubles is proof enough that he is no MVP (I would take LeBron, Kawhi and Harden as MVP before Westbrook).

That being said, I know he will win and I won’t go into mind-blowing numbers proving that he shouldn’t. I’ve done that before.

I hope this MVP award is enjoyed because Russ’s NBA career will be filled with losing. The allure of his MVP season will be worn off by the time the 2017-18 season starts and fans, experts and those around the league will begin to see how manufactured those triple doubles are. Even if he were to put up another triple-double season, unless he puts W’s in the win column it won’t mean much.

Westbrook winning the MVP will be the first time since 1981 (Moses Malone) that a player has won the award without leading their team to a Top 3 spot in their respective conference.

I don’t expect that to happen again for another 30+ years. So soak it in tonight Russ, wearing whatever weird costume you choose, because tonight will mark the end of you winning in the NBA—unless you can make nice with KD and let him come back to OKC.
