Ghost In The Shell Movie Starring Scarlett Johansson Begins Filming
The long-awaited anticipation has finally come to an end, filming has begun on the live action movie Ghost in the Shell.
The first image of Scarlett Johansson as the title role of Team field leader Commander Motoko Kusanagi has been released. It shows Johansson in the iconic Kusanagi haircut and jacket. The movie is based on a Japanese cyberpunk manga of the same name. It follows the Japanese National Public Safety Commission (Section 9) as they fight against cyber crime and terrorism. Where most of the Section 9 team have some sort of cyber implant, Kusanagi herself has replaced her whole body with cybernetic parts.
Filming has begun in New Zealand and is planned for release March 31, 2017. The film will be directed by Rupert Sanders. The cast includes Takeshi “Beat” Kitano, Michael Wincott, Michael Pitt and Julliette Binoche.
