This afternoon, the Cincinnati Reds agreed to send Marlon Byrd to the San Fransisco Giants in exchange for minor league pitcher Stephen Johnson. Byrd was having a good year for the Reds with nineteen home runs and over forty runs batted in. The Giants have sustained multiple injuries to players in their outfield so the addition of Byrd was one that should definitely help as they try to catch the Dodgers in the NL West.

The Dodgers made a trade of their own yesterday so their division rivals making a move to bolster their team is only fitting. Both players should have an impact for their teams as the playoffs approach. Although they will most likely get consistent playing time to start with, when both teams get healthy, how much each of them plays is uncertain.

The Giants needed to add a bat to help with their outfield issues and Byrd should give them just what they need, a player that can produce and hit the ball out of the ballpark. Perhaps being back in a pennant race will give Byrd an added boost as San Fransisco tries to get back to the playoffs in the very competitive National League.
