Group A Preview
It’s finally time for one sporting event that the soccer world has been anxiously waiting for since July 13th, 2014: the 2018 World Cup!
What better way to get ready for it than to take a look at each of the eight groups and break each group down? And why not start with the host country’s group, Group A? Their defense, along with Saudi Arabia’s, will definitely be tested, as they are going up against Uruguay and Egypt.

Key matchup: Uruguay vs Egypt
The winner of this game (unless they draw) will probably go on to win the group. However, finishing first or second might not be that big of deal, as they’ll have a tough draw regardless in the round of 16. But at the same time, it will definitely look better if you win your group versus finishing second. And this game should help determine who comes out on top of the group.
I feel bad for Russia. They spend the last four years getting ready for the World Cup, and they draw Uruguay (led by prolific strikers Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani), and Egypt (who have perhaps the most inform player in Mohamed Salah). They should be able to beat Saudi Arabia, but they lack the goal scorers to compete with Uruguay and Egypt.
This group will be all about the goals, and while Saudi Arabia is better than no point in three matches, they just won’t be able to score enough goals to compete with Uruguay and Egypt. And while the Egypt vs Uruguay game should be an absolute goal fest, Uruguay should be able to score enough goals in the other two games to win the group based on goal differential.
