Hakeem Nicks vs. Donte Moncrief
With Reggie Wayne rumored to be out at least a game or two with a shoulder injury, which Colts receiver will step up in his absence? On the Colts depth chart, former Giant Hakeem Nicks and rookie Donte Moncrief are next in line for an expanded role. When Andrew Luck is the quarterback for these wide outs, it will instantly boost their fantasy value, due to the Wayne injury.
Nicks was supposed to come into Indianapolis this season and play himself into a nice pay day (he signed a favorable one year deal in the offseason), but that has yet to happen. Nicks has caught 17 balls for 141 yards with two touchdowns, and has consistently looked mediocre to start the year.
Moncrief on the other hand has only caught nine passes for 103 yards, but last week against the Bengals–it was the rookie who played more snaps than Nicks. This could be an increasing trend moving forward for the Colts and their offense. Moncrief offers more upside to Indianapolis, and with his 4.35 speed, he is a dangerous weapon in the Colts passing attack.
Defenses will look to take away TY Hilton–Luck’s only proven wide receiver target, this will force targets to the other receivers. If I were looking for a plug and play wide receiver for the next game or two, I would consider adding the rookie Moncrief—who is a sneaky top 30 WR play.
