Hard Knocks Rams

Mermaids, dinosaurs, and robotic dummies.

Three terms I really didn’t envision saying when recapping Night 2 of HBO‘s 2016 version of Hard Knocks. But then again, it is Hollywood.

The first half of the episode was spent getting to know the team on a personal level. We found out defensive end Will Hayes believes mermaids are real, and hopes to meet one while in Los Angeles. He also contends that dinosaurs never existed. We found out Tavon Austin doesn’t appreciate robotic dummies sneaking up on him. We found out that Kenny Britt doesn’t need to be anyone’s chauffeur…ever! Lastly, we saw too many American flag tank tops gathering in one place, and a pool party.

We also saw the Dallas Cowboys come to town, and they didn’t care about any of that.

Los Angeles would host an NFL game for the first time in 7,903 days. So how would the Rams perform in their long awaited return?

They would give the home crowd a show, and a win. After giving up a opening kickoff touchdown to Dallas receiver Lucky Whitehead, and 24 first half points, the Rams defense would shutout the Cowboys in the second half.

Case Keenum looked like the starter in limited action, and second year quarterback Sean Mannion looked really sharp. Unfortunately, for the second straight episode, the number one pick in this year’s draft, Jared Goff, did not.

Nelson Spruce was the star in this week’s episode going off against Dallas. Spruce had six big catches for 51 yards and a touchdown.

Heartbreak would strike in the Night 2 episode, and it was not in the form of a cut, but injury. The Rams rookie safety Brian “Rhino” Randolph would go down with a torn ACL. His rookie season is done.

However, the darkest moment of Night 2 may have been when the show ended with Jared Goff walking down a dark alley, alone, and without fanfare. Something that is becoming a theme in Hard Knocks 2016.

Stay tuned next week for Night 3.
