Hard Knocks Tampa Bay: Episode 2
Last week’s episode of Hard Knocks starts out with a revelation…it’s HOT in Tampa Bay, in August. Another theme for this week’s episode that’s not so hot is the Bucs kicking game.
In the latest episode we see the kicker battle between Nick Folk and Roberto Aguayo play all the way out till the end. Nick Folk is the veteran kicker who was brought in this year because last year the rookie Aguayo out of Florida State struggled. Aguayo was nearly perfect at Florida State, earning him the nickname “Mr. Perfect”. He was 198-for-198 in extra point attempts and 69-for-78 in field goal attempts in three years with the Seminoles. It didn’t take long to realize that the Bucs may have wasted their 2nd Round pick in 2016. Aguayo missed his first ever extra point in the NFL, and it’s been all down hill from there.
We heard a nice discussion between Mike Evans and DeSean Jackson about who the best NBA players of all-time are. Evans really likes LeBron and Kobe while DeSean has questions about LeBron. When DeSean questions LeBron’s decision to go to a new team to win a title, Evans quickly responds with, “You just did the same thing.”.
There was also a special appearance by Ed Hochuli, NFL officiating great. The topic was what will be acceptable when it comes to endzone and touchdown celebrations this year. Mike Evans double pump reverse slam over the goalpost is definitely outlawed, and Gerald McCoy‘s dance moves are in question. Speaking of Gerald McCoy, he is a fan of Batman and would love being knocked out by him, and I think he is serious. You need to see the episode so this makes sense.
We also learned that the most outspoken person within the Bucs family may be Miko Grimes, cornerback Brent Grimes wife. She is gritty and likes to stir it up. She is definitely a soldier for her husband and the Bucs camp. Let’s just say she tells it like it is and I think even HBO bleeped her a few times.
Then we arrive to the end of the show, and the end of the road for Roberto Aguayo. After missing an extra point in the preseason game against the Bengals, then missing a late field goal that would have given the Bucs a chance, the decision couldn’t be more clear. Nick Folk will be the Bucs kicker this year.
(Aguayo was quickly picked up by the Bears and missed his first field goal attempt with his new squad. Badly.)
This week the intensity should pick up after a preseason loss, and we are getting closer to major cuts. The new episode of Hard Knocks debuts tonight at 9 CT.
