With the Indianapolis Colts going 8-8 and missing out on the playoffs by a game to the Houston Texans who went 9-7, many expected HC Chuck Pagano to be out as the Colts coach. Instead, Colts owner Jim Irsay and Pagano have agreed to an extension. The 8-8 season comes just one year after the Colts won AFC South and went 11-5, making a trip to the AFC Conference Championship game. The extension comes as a surprise, although shows that Irsay believes the lost season isn’t all to blame on Pagano but due to certain circumstances. Pagano and the Colts were dealt with several injuries over the year, none bigger than Andrew Luck who seemed to never be at full strength after the first week who was lost for the season due to a Rib injury.

Chuck Pagano has accumulated a 41-23 record with the Colts in four seasons and while many believed Pagano wasn’t reaching his players, Pagano was able to turn a season where they saw five different quarterbacks snap the ball for the Colts and go .500 while barely missing the playoffs. Also, coach Pagano made it known that he wanted to stay with the Colts, “I will fight my a– off to be the coach here,” Pagano said. And later added “Do I want to be the coach here? Yes.” Pagano had a desire to stay, and the Colts realized that he’s the best option and a heck of a coach that was atop if not all, then most HC vacancies around the league.

Therefore from being able to string 8 wins from a team with so many question marks, as well his desire to stay and continue being the head coach. Pagano was able to fight and keep his job after agreeing to a contract extension with the Colts Front office. And is expected to be the Colts coach going forward for years to come.
