On the first game on Christmas Day, it took more than 4 quarters to decide the winner between the New Orleans Pelicans and the Miami Heat. The Heat took the victory 94-88, as they improve to 17-11 on the season, and the Pelicans fall to 9-20. The game was a turnover fest, as both teams played sloppy with Miami and New Orleans both giving the ball away 17 times.

Through the first quarter, the Heat looked like they were going to run away with the game as they outscored the Pelicans 27-15. Hassan Whiteside of the Heat grabbed 11 rebounds in the quarter, while Anthony Davis of the Pelicans scored 11 of his team’s 15 points.

At the half, Davis continued anchoring the Pelicans as they were able to cut the lead to 4, being down 42-38. Davis recorded a double-double at the half, putting up 20 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. For the Heat, Dwyane Wade was leading the way as he had 11 points,while Chris Bosh had 9.

In the second half, it was more of the same as it was a low-scoring affair with several turnovers. The Heat started pulling away in the third, but the Pelicans didn’t quit, chipping at the lead and scoring 26 in the 4th quarter to tie the game at 78 which lead to overtime.

In overtime, the Heat were in control, as Bosh and Wade combined for 13 of the Heat’s 16 points (Bosh-7, Wade-6). As for the Pelicans, Davis scored just 2 points in overtime, as they were led by Eric Gordon who scored 6 points. In the end, the Heat were too much for the Pelicans, coming away with a 94-88 win as Bosh had 30 points and 10 rebounds while Anthony Davis had 29 points and 15 rebounds in a losing effort.

Next up for the Pelicans is a matchup with the Rockets at home, while the Heat will travel to Orlando to face the Magic tomorrow night at 7 PM ET.
