Moneyball isn’t working in Oakland. At least not for Brett Lawrie to open the season. In two games, Lawrie has eight plate appearances with one hit and five strikeouts. He received a Golden Sombrero last night, striking out four times in 12 pitches. If you are decent at math, you know that’s a rough night for Lawrie. I watched the game, and some of the pitches were not even close to the strike zone, but to his credit, he did not get any fastballs. Here’s how his night went at the plate….

Second Inning: Strike (looking), Strike (looking), Strike (swinging), Lawrie struck out swinging

Fifth Inning: Strike (looking), Strike (foul), Strike (swinging), Lawrie struck out swinging

Seventh Inning: Strike (looking), Strike (swinging), Strike (swinging), Lawrie struck out swinging

Ninth Inning: Strike (looking), Strike (looking), Strike (swinging), Lawrie struck out swinging

The Oakland Athletics lost the game 3-1 to division rival Texas Rangers, the rubber-match  of the series is tonight when the A’s will send Scott Kazmir to the mound to face-off against Ross Detweiler.
