Hugh Jackman (Wolverine) – One Last Time
In less than a month we will get what appears to be our final film with Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. According to Jackman himself, Logan will be his last time as Wolverine. In an interview with ComicBook.com, Jackman had this to say regarding if this would indeed be the last time we see him as Wolverine.
“I’m out,” Jackman said. “Look, I know it’s very un-Australian to leave a party while I’m having a great time but at some point, it just feels…”
“I thought, ‘If I do one more, I have to do the movie that I’ve felt’ and I didn’t even know what that was but I just knew there was something within me that I wanted to do. When we came up with this idea, which I recorded a voice memo of it literally two years before the day we release. Until that moment, I wasn’t even sure I’d do this one. Having done this, I just wanted to, for me, what was the most perfect and definitive version of that character.”
Hugh has been Wolverine since 2000 when he debuted in X-Men – a role that was not his to begin with – and he has been in every film since either as a cameo or the lead role including his three solo films. He has played the character longer than any other actor has for similar roles and after 17 years it does look like this will be his end. Jackman has always given his all for the role and makes sure he is in top shape to play Wolverine. When he sat down with Entertainment Tonight he had this to say about giving his all for Logan,
“There is not a frame of this film where I can’t say I didn’t put everything into it,” Jackman said. “I couldn’t have made this film if I didn’t make the decision within myself that this was the last one. I just didn’t compromise on anything. I was a pain to a lot of people, because I don’t get another shot at this. This is a character I love. I owe my career to this character.”
I think we all as fans will miss seeing him in the role and it has been an honor to witness the level of commitment to the character he has shown. Regardless of RottenTomato scores or huge box office results, he has stayed with the role and never quit. His first solo film (X-Men Origins:Wolverine) was panned by critics and fans but he bounced back and gave us an awesome sequel with ‘The Wolverine’ and Logan looks to be one of the best comic book films of the year. I can almost guarantee that had Dougray Scott not had to bail out then he would not have lasted as long as Jackman has. I do hope that maybe a year or two down the road he will wake up and realize he misses the role and does a cameo here and there but if this is the last time we see him then I hope we make this film a huge success for him and director James Mangold.
Please comment below your thoughts on Hugh’s comments regarding the film and let us know how you feel about his portrayal over the years. Did you like him as Wolverine?
