‘Into the Badlands’ Recap and Review: “Leopard Snares Rabbit”
This past Sunday on Into the Badlands, the pieces on the board continued to shift. Here’s a full recap. Moon and the Widow’s forces overtook the Iron Rabbit’s camp just as a message of warning arrived.
Tilda battled Nathaniel until he knocked her unconscious and her people carried her away. Odessa, who stayed behind to take on Nathaniel, was knocked out by the regent after she refused to give up Tilda’s location.
Elsewhere, Sunny and Bajie went undercover as part of Widow’s forces to get closer to the line. The people in the camp were struggling after both the general and lieutenant were killed so Sunny took over as regent in an effort to get Henry through the danger zone.
Back at The Sanctuary, Lydia and the Widow ironed out the terms of their agreement just as Odessa was dragged in. The young woman refused to give up Tilda’s location once more. After interrogating her, the Widow went upstairs to see M.K. and asked him if he saw anything during his drug-haze. He denied seeing anything.
Nearby, Lydia returned to her old home and chose a new insignia. Nathaniel came to see her and revealed that he knew she was the one to send the Rabbits the warning. The pair seemed to know a lot about each other and had a moment of closeness where Nathaniel revealed he still had feelings for her. Lydia denied his kiss and warned him that love brings problems and to “just ask Sunny about it” when he caught up with him.
Speaking of Sunny, his first attempt to make it through the guarded alleyway ended with a young fighter named Ren with a life-threatening injury. Bajie used his former abbot abilities to help heal her. Elsewhere, Tilda snuck in to see Lydia, pissed that the woman sold them out. Lydia explained her decision but Tilda didn’t seem to buy it.
At the wall of The Sanctuary, Nathaniel stopped a truck that Sunny sent for supplies. When the driver explained that they were there with an urgent need for supplies on the orders of their regent, Nathaniel asked for a description of the man. When the driver mentioned the blade Sunny carried, Nathaniel’s interest was peaked.
As night fell, Bajie used his abilities to ease Ren’s pain when her leg was amputated to save her life, while Sunny relied on flaming arrows to distract and his own bow and arrow (the first weapon he learned) to take out Chau’s single warrior. The man was the last remaining from his unit and despite Sunny’s orders not to harm him, he was killed by a vengeful Arthur (George Sear).
The next morning, Ren was not happy about her amputation and Tilda strolled up to The Sanctuary to get Odessa freed. The Widow agreed to free the young woman only if Tilda came back to her side. Tilda would only agree to the deal if M.K. was released.
Upstairs, when two servants forced a liquid substance down M.K.’s throat, his gift returned and he kicked the men down into the lower level where the women were talking. Tilda was able to stop him from killing the Widow and left with M.K. and Odessa after a nod from the Widow.
Review of last week’s Into the Badlands
Sunday’s episode definitely moved the plot along well as M.K. finally got his gift back and got away from the Widow. The subtle nod that the Widow gave Tilda before she left leaves me to wonder what their relationship will be like moving forward.
Nathaniel and Lydia have an interesting dynamic. While Lydia has become someone I root for on Into the Badlands, Moon is not, especially when he wants to kill Sunny. When he explained that he wanted to kill Sunny because he let him live and let Bajie take his hand and sword, I felt like his beef was really with Bajie rather than Sunny. But, I guess it wouldn’t be any fun if nobody was after Sunny. No Pilgrim this week, so I’m interested to see what he’s been up to.
I’m giving “Leopard Snares Rabbit a 9/10.
Into the Badlands airs Sundays at 10 PM EST on AMC.
