Josh Hamilton has been in the news a lot recently. There was the relapse on drugs and alcohol, the fact the Angels do not want to pay him or even let him play for the team, and starting the MLB season on the DL due to a shoulder injury….but is he still hurt?

Hamilton recently met with Angels manager Mike Scioscia, and Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com said the skipper is not sold on Hamilton returning to the team saying, “no clarity that [Hamilton is] getting the help he needs,” and that “that’s a major concern.”

To me, it sounds like Scioscia is not even concerned with Hamilton’s health and that his last drug relapse sealed his fate with Los Angeles.

Hamilton’s teammates see the situation differently and have made their beliefs public knowledge that the Angels front office is black-balling Josh. Angels third baseman David Freese said, “from what I hear and what I see, he’s kind of ready to go . . . He’s running, he’s hitting, he’s ready to go physically. He’s doing the things he needs to do to play baseball and taking the necessary steps off the field.”

Sounds like a healthy Josh Hamilton to me. His teammates gain nothing by making up these claims to the media, unlike the Angels front office who are trying to get out from under Hamilton’s hefty contract, which still has close to $100 million on it through 2017.

The bottom line here, MLB did not suspend Hamilton due to his relapse, with the support of his teammates he should be allowed to play baseball, especially if he’s healthy. So Arte Moreno, the billionaire Angels owner, should trade or release Hamilton, or let the man play if he’s healthy. I’m sure baseball is an outlet for Hamilton’s demons and when he’s on the field, those addictions are not in the forefront of his mind.

Do you think Hamilton should play? Let me know in the comments below…
